Feature Story– can create understanding in a more imaginative way, provide additional background information and generate human interest

A proposal outlines the entire article and explains why it should be published. A proposal should include:

  • a tentative title
  • subject and theme
  • significance
  • major points
  • descriptions of photos and graphics

Parts of a Feature:

  1. Headline- should be delightful and charming
  2. Lead- attract attention to get the reader to read the entire story
  3. Body- use enough words to tell the story thoroughly
  4. Summary- most important part of the feature
  5. Photos/Graphics- gives more appeal

Op-ed– opposite the editorial page; presents a variety of views on current news events, social issues, pending legislation and governmental policies
