Fact Sheets:

  • accompanies a news release or media kit
  • one-page background sheets about an event, product or organization
  • in outline or bullet form
  • reporters can use it as a quick reference when writing a story

Media Advisories:

  • also known as media alerts
  • short bulleted items
  • tell assignment editors about upcoming events they may be interested in
  • includes a one-line headline, journalism’s five Ws and H and who to contact for more information

Media Kits:

  • prepared for major events and new product launches
  • gives editors a variety of information and resources
  • may include- a main news release, news feature, fact sheets, background, photos and drawings and brochures
  • always prominently display contact information
  • also known as a press kit

Pitch:

  • used to convince an editor that a story is newsworthy
  • must be brief
  • needs to raise interest
  • get to the point immediately
